Things to see and do
Maryort is not just about its attractions although they are plentiful and fun.
But there is more to the area than that. Part of Hadrian's Country, the town is surrounded by beautiful walks and cycle tracks. If that seems like too much work, you can even hire electric bikes at the Wave Centre which allows maximum fresh air for minimum effort.
Walk around Maryport and enjoy the Georgian buildings. Visit the imposing St Mary's Church on Netherhall Corner nd explore the church yard to find the graves of Ten Shilling Smith, an unknown man who was washed up on our shores and was named for the money they found in his pocket.
On High Street is the home of Isabella Harris, mother of Sir Joseph Lister who pioneered the use of antiseptics. These are just two examples of the interesting places you will stumble across just wandering around town.
Take a walk down the promenade or head up to the Roman museum via Fleming Square, the old Georgian butter market with its imposing cobble and streets. When you get to the museum or the promenade can we invite you to stay long enough to enjoy the stunning Solway sunsets. We didn't make them but we call them our own!
For a day at the beach Allonby is the place to go for a day out.
Even though we have not listed them again, don't forget the other attractions which will provide hours of fun for adults and the kids.
They are listed under Places to Visit.
Enjoy your stay.
